Membrane-Assisted Growth of DNA Origami Nanostructure Arrays
Biological membranes fulfill many important tasks within living organisms. In addition to separating cellular volumes, membranes confine the space available to membrane-associated proteins to two dimensions (2D), which greatly increases their probability to interact with each other and assemble into multiprotein complexes. We here employed two DNA origami structures functionalized with choleste...
متن کاملImmunocytochemical properties of Alzheimer straight filaments.
In addition to paired helical filaments (PHF), the Alzheimer neurofibrillary tangle (NFT) contains straight filaments measuring 10-15 nm in width, as well as amorphous material. In previous immunoelectron microscopic studies, we have demonstrated that PHF and the amorphous material share antigens with the microtubule associated protein, tau, and the 200 kDa subunit of neurofilaments (NF). The p...
متن کاملResonant helical deformations in nonhomogeneous Kirchhoff filaments
We study the three-dimensional static configurations of nonhomogeneous Kirchhoff filaments with periodically varying Young’s modulus. This type of variation may occur in long tandemly repeated sequences of DNA. We analyse the effects of the Young’s modulus frequence and amplitude of oscillation in the stroboscopic maps, and in the regular (non chaotic) spatial configurations of the filaments. O...
متن کاملAssembly of actin filaments and microtubules in Nwk F-BAR-induced membrane deformations
F-BAR domains form crescent-shaped dimers that bind to and deform lipid bilayers, and play a role in many cellular processes requiring membrane remodeling, including endocytosis and cell morphogenesis. Nervous Wreck (NWK) encodes an F-BAR/SH3 protein that regulates synapse growth in Drosophila. Unlike conventional F-BAR proteins that assemble tip-to-tip into filaments and helical arrays around ...
متن کاملDNA origami: the art of folding DNA.
The advent of DNA origami technology greatly simplified the design and construction of nanometer-sized DNA objects. The self-assembly of a DNA-origami structure is a straightforward process in which a long single-stranded scaffold (often from the phage M13mp18) is folded into basically any desired shape with the help of a multitude of short helper strands. This approach enables the ready genera...
